As a Bay Area Family Photographer, my "busy season" is September through December. This is because people typically associate that time of year with the best time to have photos taken for their Holiday cards. But I'm here to tell you that the Fall is not your only option...... in fact, some of my favorite images have been taken in the Spring! Why? I'll tell you....
1. The Spring time here in the Bay area is filled with COLOR! The hills are covered in green and there are so many flowers blooming! Pink almond blossoms, the yellow fields of Mustard flowers and even the state flower... the poppy!
2. The WEATHER! The weather in the Spring is a bit more predictable and consistent. In the Fall, it can be incredibly cold and rainy which isn't ideal for pictures while on the flip side it can also be triple digits. That is brutal when your family is dressed in sweaters and scarves and dripping with sweat! Kids and husbands tend to get cranky right away when the weather isn't in our favor. Better weather allows for a different type of wardrobe for the session too (you can wear fun, flirty dresses and not freeze your butt off!)
3. My AVAILABILITY! I only have so many sessions in a day/week that I can take on... and when it seems everyone is booking within the same three months I sell out fast! Booking a session in the Spring guarantees you more flexibility in scheduling, as well as more options to choose from.
4. Your images will look DIFFERENT than in years past! How many locations have we been to with the tall golden grass and no green in sight? Mix up the look with a different time of year.
5. Spring is LESS STRESSFUL .... you don't have the looming lists of "to do's" hanging over your head, the Holiday shopping, cooking and baking, and the general craziness of the season. How good would it feel to complete your session in the Spring and even order your Holiday cards before the Summer was over? One less thing to worry about!
So if your children are a bit older (say 4 or 5 and up) and their looks won't change much from Spring to Fall, consider booking a session soon! I promise you'll thank me for the idea when your friends are scrambling for a photographer and picking out their clothes in October and your Holiday cards are ready to be dropped in the mail.
